Osogbo is a city in existence since the 18th century, and the capital city of Osun
state. There are two local governments in the town. The inhabitants are traditionally subsistence farmers and Tie & Dye
Batik artists.
Osogbo is popular for the Arts, Sculpture and traditional religion, most especially
the Osun divinity with its numerous devotees spread all over the world. There exists the Osun sacred grove, which is as old
as the town and still being preserved until today, and has earned recognition as a world heritage center by UNESCO.

She is represented as the embodiment of female beauty
and sensuality. She is a warrior energy who uses charm and skillful diplomacy to achieve her ends.
She was taught divination using cowrie shells by Orumila . Her number is five, her colors are yellow
and amber and the metals, gold and bronze. She is fond of honey, oranges and perfumes.
In the Yoruba tradition she is the deity of the Osun River. Yearly she is celebrated in the Osun Festival
which culminates in a procession of the King and high priests and priestess to the Osun River in the Osun Grove. The festival
is attended by tens of thousands of local residents and visitors from around the world.
